Abby and I are home owners! How crazy is that? I tell you, this life crap is getting to real. It all started by me (Clark) living with my roommates in Boulder, Colorado. I met the love of my life (Abby) shortly after moving in with my roommates in 2007. I began to have financial trouble but I refused to go back home feeling defeated and hearing the words coming out of my parents “I told you so”. That being said I decided to live in my car and a friend’s couch for about 6 months (not your average car nor friend) a good, old ’69 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser. She had plenty of room for me to get cozy (car) and my friend was sure kind and patient (Sam). The good thing is that my old job had everything I needed, from showers since it had a built in gym to an awesome cafeteria, since very important corporate individuals needed to be well fed and did not eat anything but organic food. Don’t worry, I wasn’t stinky, malnourished nor unhealthy. I was trying to prove a point that I could make it on my own and besides, I was living the best days of my life.
When I met Abby everything changed for me and let me tell you; yup! people definitely change! I felt like I changed for the better, sure I am still a pain in the butt in my own way but I am more responsible (kinda). Abby and I got married in 2012 and the rest in history. We lived in a tiny condo in Denver, Colorado and both Abby and I felt like we weren’t going anywhere. We tried to stay active and yes we did, but never together since Abby had to commute to school every day and I had the weirdest work schedule that impeded us to spend time together.
Abby graduated from Colorado School of Mines in 2013 as a mechanical engineer. Man I feel like I am putting you guys to sleep, changing gears. Quick summary of how things went down. Abby and I moved to Iowa because who doesn’t love corn fields? Just kidding, Abby got an amazing job offer, which she took and believe me, she enjoys her job and she is very proud on what she has become and what she does! I am lucky to have such an amazing wife and partner in crime! She is the best that I could have ever asked for and not to mention, she is a super awesome mother and I yes, I ask myself every day, “What did she see in me?”.
And then there is me. I had no idea what I was going to do at the time, I still don’t know what to do with my life. I have a business degree and yet I feel lost. When we moved to Iowa I decided to take a year off but things went south since we ran out of money. Fortunately for me, I found a job and surprisingly that’s where I continue to go every day from Monday through Friday from 8:00am till 5:00pm. I don’t know how I do it (necessity) but without my job I wouldn’t be able to afford the things that I love to do. Hike, kayak, camp, etc.
Abby and I became parents of our little Eyra in 2015 and life got even more exciting for us. Our goals got even bigger, our dreams were becoming reality and now here I am writing my first blog in the living room of our very own house. That is exciting! We are happy to start a new year fresh with opportunities (I technically have them now) but I figured what better way than to start fresh in the incoming year, travel around our nation and make the best of life while we can! What adventure will come next?
